Good tidings my chickadees,

Well now, it’s been ages I know but not because nothing’s happening…o no! the recording of the second part of the ‘unrequited trilogy’ – DANDELION WISHES AND ATHEIST PRAYERS – is done and almost dusted yet the way of these things is such that money-gathering for the pressing/cover art/shipment costs takes time (any insane phil anthropists or wide-eyed record companies out there take note)…thus a release date of April has been set and a special gig will be announced to celebrate the occasion at which the cd will be available and of course via the website after that.  Three gigs prior to April though; two with group and one solo (see gig guide on this site for details)…

A photographer/artist chum of Mr B. – one Aaron Shrimpton – has used a Burdett poem for the ‘heaven’ section of a triptych (that’s a visual work of three parts, art fans) which features the radiant and curvaceous Burdett himself in three images depicting heaven, earth and hell…the latter is understandable but the first two…? Anyway, this fine chap has mooted the possibility of making two videos partly inspired by the images and using two songs from the forthcoming cd…being ‘Whenever’ and ‘Send Me Better Things’…yowza! MTV here we come…more details when it gets beyond the prep stage…

Burdett in New Romantic Flashback shock! Last year our hero was contacted by an indie dvd company to be a ‘talking head’ on a documentary about Basildon synth band Depeche Mode because of his old connections with Mode head-honcho Martin Gore (see biography page for detail)…well, the resulting interview can be seen in all its’ hungover glory on something called ‘RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY’ which is out now in dvd format…I would recommend scouring the internet as it’s an ‘unauthorised’ work and not for general sale but it exists! We’ve got one! Honest!

The endless recording of songs continues apace next year with the rather astonishing, financially ruinous and slightly reckless plans for a DOUBLE cd featuring the current Phil Burdett Group of 18 original tunes…going by the name of ‘NEWTOWN MYTHOLOGY’ it will be outside the ‘trilogy’ and a damn sight noisier…watch this space…whilst on the subjects of recklessness and dvds, a recent anniversary gig for the splendid Sail Loft folk club was filmed at Grays WMC (home of trad folk…ahem…) and Phil performs two songs ‘MESSED UP MIND’ & ‘SOPHIA’ in a slightly real-ale inspired way…no news of the finished product as yet but as and when etc…

What with poem pamphlet ‘RHYMING VODKA WITH KAFKA’ complete and in the queue marked ‘to-be-paid-for’ then all in all a busy old year ahead…

You shall hear the hot news here first (promise to be more up-to-date) and the website will be informed of any gigs etc…

           Until the next time…

                                hasta lluego!

                                                 Wierdbeard xx
